    About the landlord

Bronte was a good landlord all the way up until we moved out. I moved in with a girl who had already been living there for 3 years, so when she and I both moved out at the end of the lease, it was the landlord's first time having an unoccupied unit. She charged us for basic wear and tear that comes with living in a property for 3 years like replacing light bulbs, repainting the unit, and deep cleaning the inside of the oven. We hired professional cleaners who came and cleaned after move out (per Bronte's request) and she still charged us for her cleaner to come in and clean the place again. She was also very pushy about us allowing her to bring in potential tenants for tours while we were still living there with less than 24 hours notice. I was sick one day when she asked if someone could come, and when I said no , she gave me a hard time.

    About the property

The place is great. It's not a good layout for privacy though, so it is best suited for one person to live there or for a couple to live there (not two random roommates). The open floor plan is nice, but the lack of bedroom doors makes sound privacy a big problem, so don't count on being able to work from home if you live here with someone else. The facility is nice and has great amenities. I would consider renting a unit in this building again, but I would not rent with the same landlord again.

I wish I had known how difficult it is to share one of these units with a roommate. I thought the open layout would be fine, but the lack of privacy ended up being a big problem for me. I would enjoy living there if I shared it with a partner maybe, but for a random roommate, it was too tough. Also, the landlord there is new to being a landlord and it shows. She withheld a significant portion of our security deposit at move out for basic wear and tear that comes with living in a place for 3 years (the length of time that my roommate had lived there) including repainting, cleaning appliances (we got docked for not thoroughly cleaning the inside of the oven), and replacing light bulbs. It was ridiculous. We had hired a professional cleaner who came in and cleaned the place after we moved out, and she still charged us for her own hired cleaning professional despite giving us the option to hire our own. She also gave us a lot of attitude when it came to showing the place to potential future renters around the time we were due to move out. She wanted us to allow her to bring people by with less than 24 hours notice, which to me was unfair. It's a great building in a great part of town, and I would live in this building again, but I would not rent from this landlord again.
